Foundation Parging in Calgary

Parging is the strip most people never look at — the cement coating between the ground and where your siding or stucco begins, covering the exposed part of your foundation.

It does more than it gets credit for: protecting concrete or block from moisture and freeze-thaw, and tidying a rough surface. When it’s intact, it’s invisible. When it flakes and falls away, water gets in behind it, freezes, and works on both the parging and the concrete underneath. Failing parging isn’t a cosmetic problem that got ugly — it’s a protective layer that stopped protecting, and the next thing in line is your foundation.

Stucco Wave repairs and replaces foundation parging across Calgary and southern Alberta. We take failed material off back to sound concrete, deal with what caused the failure, and rebuild it properly — because parging over loose material just falls off again within a season or two.

Why Choose Professional Parging?

Parging may look like a simple surface coating, but lasting results depend on proper preparation, application, and weather-resistant materials.

Surface damage can hide deeper problems

Cracks, flaking, or bulging parging may indicate moisture intrusion, foundation movement, or poor adhesion beneath the surface. A professional inspection identifies the underlying issue before repairs begin.

Proper preparation ensures lasting adhesion

New parging will not bond correctly to loose, dirty, or damaged concrete. Professionals remove failing material, clean the foundation, repair cracks, and prepare the surface for a strong, durable finish.

Materials and weather conditions matter

Parging must be mixed and applied at the correct consistency, thickness, and temperature. Using suitable materials and allowing proper curing helps prevent cracking, peeling, and premature deterioration.

Benefits of Proper Parging

  • Protects the foundation from moisture and freeze-thaw damage
  • Prevents spalling — flaking of the concrete itself, a far larger repair
  • Reduces moisture transfer into the foundation wall
  • Improves appearance dramatically for a small strip
  • Covers imperfections in block joints, form marks and tie holes
  • Helps at resale — inspectors always flag crumbling parging
  • Inexpensive relative to what it prevents

Residential Parging

  • Full replacement — where the coating has failed across most of the perimeter. Everything loose off, concrete prepared and primed, new material in a consistent finish all round.

Sectional repair — where failure is limited to one or two areas, typically a downspout or north-facing wall. We match existing finish and texture as closely as the material allows.

New construction — finishing exposed foundation on new builds, coordinated with the builder.

Post-landscaping — after grading, excavation or weeping tile work has exposed or damaged the strip.

How much does it cost in Calgary?

One of the more affordable services, priced mainly on perimeter length, removal extent, concrete condition and access. We quote firm after a free look.

Usually one of three things: water reaching it constantly from grading or a downspout, patching over loose material, or no bonding agent on an unprepared surface. All fixable — but only if the cause is dealt with.

Not properly — cement needs consistent above-freezing temperatures to cure. Our season runs roughly May to early October.
